Agbaya: Communicating 25+ Years of Expertise in the Most Demanding Environments of Sub-Saharan Africa

How Business Motion turned the Zerock Agbaya Well 01 Restoration Project for Shell into a short film that makes 25 years of oil and gas expertise tangible to decision-makers.

How do you communicate the expertise required to execute a complex project in one of the most challenging environments in Sub-Saharan Africa? You do not simply list the capabilities. You show them through the work.

For Zerock, a multiskilled contractor with more than 25 years of experience across Sub-Saharan Africa, the Agbaya Well 01 Restoration Project offered exactly that opportunity. Located in the mangrove and swamp region of Nigeria's Niger Delta, the project involved the restoration of an existing well for Shell (SPDC), in an environment where accessibility, security, water conditions and technical precision all presented significant challenges.

For Business Motion, the communication objective was clear: demonstrate what more than 25 years of experience in complex projects across Sub-Saharan Africa looks like in practice.

The Challenge

The Agbaya project contained everything that could demonstrate Zerock capabilities: marine operations, fabrication, transportation, installation, engineering precision and problem-solving in a difficult environment. But simply listing these elements would not communicate the value behind them.

The communication needed to make the viewer understand the complexity of the work and the professionalism required to deliver it without having to state it directly. That meant the project itself had to become the evidence.

The Roadmap

The starting point was not a new production. Zerock had already commissioned a filming crew to document part of the project. Business Motion therefore began by reviewing the available footage and determining what could be built from it.

From there, we developed a storytelling approach that combined project footage, photography, graphics, Google Earth imagery, technical information and a carefully structured narrative. The objective was to move beyond a simple project record and construct a short film that allowed the audience to understand the environment, the scope of the work, the technical challenges and the expertise required to execute it.

The Instrument

Business Motion developed a short film that turned the Agbaya project into a concise demonstration of Zerock expertise. The challenge was to bring different assets together without making the film feel like a collection of unrelated materials. The storytelling had to guide the viewer through the project while allowing the complexity of the work to speak for itself.

The film never claims that Zerock is experienced, professional or technically capable. The work makes that clear.

Behind the Instrument

The simplicity of the final film hides a detailed process. The story, wording and visuals went through several rounds of review with Zerock leadership team. Every element was examined against one question: does this help communicate the expertise Zerock wants potential clients to recognise?

That meant refining the narrative, selecting the right visuals, adjusting the balance between footage, photography and graphics, and ensuring that the final film communicated one consistent message. The result was a short communication instrument designed not simply to document the Agbaya project, but to make Zerock experience tangible to the people who may ultimately decide who gets the next project.

The Impact

Zerock now uses the film in executive meetings, proposals and prequalification submissions. Its value as a communication asset lies in what it allows the company to demonstrate through one project: experience in a demanding environment, multidisciplinary execution, marine operations, technical precision, problem-solving and the ability to operate under challenging conditions.

When you want a potential client to recognise your expertise, telling them is one thing. Showing them is another.

This is where communication becomes part of business development. At Business Motion, we start with the business objective and determine what the communication needs to demonstrate, then select and combine the right assets, formats and storytelling approach to make that objective tangible. Reach out if you have a project that deserves to be shown, not just described.
